Revenue and tonnage for trucking will continue to expand at a steady rate for the first decade of the new century, according to a recently updated study of transportation and the economy.
Furthermore, in addition to larger figures for dollars received and tons hauled, trucking’s slice of the national transportation pie will continue to increase relative to other modes of transportation.
The study was conducted for American Trucking Associations by two economic consulting firms, WEFA Inc. and Martin Labbe Associates.
Looking at total domestic primary freight shipments, the industry had revenue of $486.1 billion in the study’s base year of 1998. That figure is projected to go up to $538 billion in 2003 and $625 billion by 2008.
