Trailer maker Talbert Manufacturing said it has acquired counterpart Ferree Trailers for an undisclosed sum.

Talbert, a provider of custom heavy-haul trailers based in Rensselaer, Indiana, said the acquisition expands its product line, adds to its manufacturing capabilities and takes the company into new market segments.

Ferree, located in Liberty, North Carolina, builds detachable, fixed and folding gooseneck trailers and tag-a-longs, as well as specialty products such as logging, pole and crane-boom trailers.

鈥淔erree is a strong complement to the Talbert line,鈥 Andy Tanner, Talbert鈥檚 president, said in the Nov. 4 announcement. 鈥淭he acquisition of Ferree Trailers provides us with a wider product offering to serve our customer needs and a large, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility with quality people that offers tremendous opportunity.鈥

Talbert said Ferree鈥檚 60,000-square-foot manufacturing facility will enable the company to expand its manufacturing capabilities and provide a distribution center on the East Coast.

鈥淭his new facility in North Carolina not only gives us the ability to increase production and reduce lead times, but also provides us a distribution point to access customers with reduced freight costs and delivery times,鈥 said Greg Smith, vice president of sales and marketing.
