improved transit times as part of an ongoing initiative to improve speed across its network, the company announced May 17.

The Downers Grove, Ill.-based less-than-truckload carrier said the move represents its fifth round of transit time improvements in less than two years. These efforts follow a major restructuring plan the carrier implemented to refocus its business on core less-than-truckload competencies.

Roadrunner Freight ranks No. 77 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America.

“We review data in real time and seek out every opportunity to optimize our network,” said . “On average, we are providing one-day faster service in these 149 lanes when shipped on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. Our ‘Weekend Plus’ service is expedited service at LTL rates — it’s an advantage that we can offer due to our direct routing over long distance.”

Roadrunner specializes in direct longhaul metro-to-metro shipping. The enhancements encompass more than 14 million ZIP-to-ZIP combinations and involve 33 origin markets and 39 destination markets. The carrier said it was able to accomplish this by continuing to invest in its team service and direct routing. It also leveraged machine-learning algorithms to optimize its network operations.
