Landstar System said Thursday its second-quarter net income rose to $29.6 million, or 62 cents a share, from $24.4 million, or 49 cents, a year ago.
The earnings per share was a second-quarter record, the company said. Revenue rose to $675.6 million, from $641.7 million.
Truck transportation revenue hauled by independent business capacity owners and brokerage carriers was $621.5 million, or 92% of revenue, up from $592 million a year ago.
Landstar System is ranked No. 8 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
