Legislation to reissue federal hazardous materials transportation safety regulations remains stalled in Congress, where politics got in the way of last year’s attempt to pass the bill.
Now it looks like it won’t come out of subcommittee this session, either.
According to a survey of members of the House Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, Hazardous Materials and Pipeline Transportation, no one expects the measure to be moved out for full floor consideration before lawmakers leave town for good in early October.
The subcommittee is part of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, chaired by Rep. Bud Shuster (R-Pa.), who introduced the hazmat reauthorization bill last year at the request of the Clinton administration.
