Freightliner Trucks said Monday it had a new Class 6 hybrid truck available, made in conjunction with Eaton Corp.
The hybrid electric vehicle, which features a diesel engine coupled with an electric motor/generator and batteries, works in line with the engine and transmission-enabling operation with electric or diesel power either separately or together.
It can yield up to 30% fuel savings and 87% reduction in idling time, said Mark Lloyd, market development manager for Eaton.
