Fed Minutes Show Inflation as Continued Top Concern

Federal Reserve officials, as they have in previous meetings, said inflation was their top concern at their meeting in late January, according to the minutes of the meeting released Wednesday. 鈥淎ll members agreed that the statement should continue to stress that some inflation risks remained,鈥 the minutes stated.Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke told the Senate Banking Committee last week that moderating prices for energy, commodities and housing should 鈥渉elp foster a continued edging down鈥 of core inflation, Bloomberg reported.The Fed left the benchmark interest rate at 5.25% at its Jan. 30-31 meeting, for a fifth straight time.(Click here for previous coverage.)
