The Ontario Trucking Association said Tuesday that an apparent diesel fuel shortage in the province was causing concern to truckers. On the highways, advisories have been issued to customers by at least one major fuel retailer that stations in several areas of the province 鈥渕ay face critical supply issues and shortages and disruptions,鈥 OTA said in a bulletin to its members. 鈥淭he situation appears to be growing worse day by day,鈥 the group said, adding that the cost of diesel fuel has risen by as much 20% in the past the past several weeks alone.鈥淲e have not seen the worst of it yet even though many companies are scrambling to find fuel and prices continue to escalate,鈥 said OTA President David Bradley.鈥淒epending on who their current fuel supplier is and how much fuel they have in underground storage tanks, some are feeling the impact of the fuel shortage sooner than others, but all are worried that if this goes on for much longer the situation could get desperate and their could be a run on diesel fuel,鈥 he said in the bulletin.
