Corning Invests in Plant for Filter Production
orning Inc. said it would spend $100 million to expand its manufacturing facility that makes the ceramic filtration material used in some diesel particulate filters, as demand for the filters increases ahead of 2007 engine emission standards.
The company said the expansion would add a second kiln to the facility. The kilns reach temperatures of more than 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit and combine clay, talc and aluminum to produce cordierite, Corning’s ceramic material used in particulate traps.
Corning announced an earlier separate expansion of the plant in February.
